Cornerstone Community Center
2009-2010 HOCKEY REGISTRATION FORM
Learn to Skate
Program teaches recreational and/or hockey skating to ages 4 to adult and is a great way to improve your skating skills. It can ready your child to play hockey, figure skate or speed skate. $68 each 8 week session, sessions run all year round. Sessions begin September 15th 6pm or 6:45pm classes.
PLAY HOCKEY, Hockey Initiation Program
The Hockey Initiation Program (HIP) is for boys and girls of all ages and is designed for beginning hockey players who want to learn the basics of the game. The players should know skating basics. We will continue to focus on improving skating skills each session, teach stick-handling, positioning, and have cross-ice scrimmage games as the season progresses, depending on skill improvement. Our goal at the HIP level is to have taught hockey skills and improve skating so that in the player's second year of skating they may progress to the De Pere or Green Bay Mite Hockey programs. This is great place to get started.

Dear New Hockey families,
If this was your first year with the Green Bay Area Youth Hockey Association, you may be wondering what's next for following years. Hopefully, this will help you make the important decision as to where your skater should play the following season. If your skater is young, the ideal route would be Learn to Skate (age 4-5), then H.I.P. (5-6), and on to Mighty Mites (age 6-8) and then Mite A or B (age 7-8). Of course, not all players develop at the same time or rate and not all skaters start at age 4 or 5. This does not mean that there are not multiple options or paths that can be planned for you child.
Attached in this letter is a description of the Mite program, the next step in hockey. If you feel your child is not ready for this step, H.I.P. for another year is still an option; however, we do have other programs that can give your skater opportunities that H.I.P. for a second season may not. We want each family to make a decision that is best for their family and to understand the process if there are questions.
Being new to a sport can be difficult. There is not always an understanding of who to ask when you are unsure of what is next or what to expect. If you have questions about where your skater belongs, we hope to offer help.
Mite Hockey and Mighty Mite Hockey Programs
Mite Hockey - Ages 4-8 (Birth year of 2001 or later for the 2009/2010 season)
Mighty Mites, Recommended prerequisite: HIP or equivalent skill. (2nd or 3rd yr. Skating)
This program has practice once per week, with a choice of Monday or Wednesday, and cross ice games on Sunday. The practices will work on basic hockey skills such as skating, stick-handling, and shooting. The players will be broken up into teams of 8 or 9 players (by jersey color) and will play cross-ice games (with and without goaltenders) on Sundays. The teams will also participate in one or more cross-ice jamborees, where the kids will play teams from other associations such as De Pere, Appleton and Fox Valley. In the second part of the season (January), players in their second year of the Mighty Mite Program will have the option at an additional cost to play full ice games, in preparation for the following season. Mighty Mites also host the Mite-Fest tournament at the Cornerstone Arena where all Mighty mites will have a chance to play full-ice hockey against other associations. To register for Mighty Mites please go to the www.gbayha.com and click on the registration tab on the left hand side of the page.
Mite Competitive, Recommended prerequisites: HIP, Mighty Mites or equivalent skill level. (3rd or 4th Year Skating)
The competitive level typically consists of 7 and 8 year old skaters. Mite Competitive consists of an A and B team, will have two practices per week, and will play anywhere from 20-30 full-ice games. Games are both home and away - plus any additional tournaments and possibly the State tournament. The A and B teams are picked during Mite tryouts based on player skill. Any player not making the A/B team should play Mighty Mite hockey. To register for Mites please go to the www.gbayha.com and click on the registration tab on the left hand side of the page.
